Okay, I'm new to this whole blogging thing, but it feels like the right format to record my poker thoughts and ideas. So without further ado...
Where to begin? How 'bout with tonight's game? My buddy Bret from Georgia is in town, so we're heading out to the casino to play in their Wednesday night $45 buy-in (no rebuys or add-ons) NL tourney. It's a bad format in general, as the blinds escalate at a really rapid pace. They go up every fifteen minutes, which means you get to see something like only 10 hands and then they get bumped. It's fun, however, and cheap. I've been playing primarily online in my short poker life (last 1.5 years) and I REALLY need live action experience. Ergo, this stupid tourney. I've played in it a few times and not monied.
Bret, on the other hand, has played only two live games in his life. Both of them were at this tournament, and both of them he chopped for first place. Bastard.
The game plan tonight, as always, is to play tight for the first few laps, and then as the blinds escalate, to start loosening up. Bret does this at home online when he plays; he uses a glass of wine and starts sipping it. By the time the glass is empty, he has loosened up sufficiently and is playing appropriately for the now smaller table with its bigger blinds.
Funny, as I asked Mark, my poker rabbi, what I should do differently at the casino tonight. He said, "drink."
Will let you know later how things go tonight. And, no, I'm not going to drink.
That's All-In for now...
