Arghgh.
Took two bad beats this morning, which for some reason feels like a bad omen for tonight's home game that I'm playing in. Here's the bloody recap:
First game was a $5 NL SnG (non-turbo). I've got 1380 in chips, blinds are tiny (25/50?). It folds around to me in the SB. I complete with K8o. BB checks, and we're 2-handed. Flop comes J-8-K, giving me top and bottom pair. I check, planning to trap. BB bets into me, I smooth. Turn comes T, I check, he bets, I call. River is a 9. He bets, I push, he calls, I lose. Could you see this train wreck coming? I sure couldn't, because I was BLINDED by my lowly two pair, totally oblivious to the board texture. BB's K-high straight felt like a kick to the gut.
Arghgh.
So, what do I do? Jump into another game, that's what.
$6 NL Turbo SnG. Two Yanks, the rest German, UK, France, China, and Turkey. There was LOTS of action, so I just stood back and let WWIII occur without me. I played one hand during the opening battle, where I picked up JJ into a multi way pot, got in relatively cheap on the button and hit a flop of 9-9-J. I slow played the monster and doubled up. Then I sat back and waited again. Within ten minutes we were on the bubble. I had 3500 in chips and was second largest stack. I needed to just sit back and wait for the shorties to go to war.... but I didn't. I got 77 in late position, flop a set....and WENT BLIND AGAIN. Woo hoo, I thought, I'm going to double up through the big stack. Except I forgot he was a complete and total loose calling station from France. His runner-runner straight felt like a double kick in the gut.
Arghgh.
Hopefully this will serve as a wake-up call for tonight. I'm playing on the other side of town with some guys from Steward Observatory and a couple of local pros. It's supposed to be a tough game. Worse, it's a mixed game, where they play Hold'em, Omaha, Stud (hi and hi/lo), and some oddball games.
Hopefully, I won't be typing "Arhghgh" tomorrow morning....
All-in for now....
