I tried my warm-up game strategy this morning. The first game was a $2 SnG turbo, and boy did I stink it up. Early in the game, I tried to steal the blinds with A3o (don’t ask me why I was even attempting to steal with the blinds so low and that early in the game, but I was). The BB called my pot-sized raise, and the flop came A-J-2. Thinking my ace was good, I fired a pot-sized bet and the BB smooth called…. yada yada yada. I ended up losing about half my stack when he turned up Anna. The rest of my stack wasn’t long for this world, either, as I picked up 77 (which lost to 88) and then 88 (which lost to a set of threes).
This was fine, though, as it was just a practice game, right? So I take a deep breath, recap what I did wrong in the first game (played way too loosely early), and then jump into a $6 turbo. Not surprisingly, I began playing better. I folded KJs UTG on the second hand, and laid down 33 on the button to a cutoff raise. Pretty soon we were down to five players and my stack was dwindling. I made some positional raises and built the stack up to 2500 or so.
And then I ran into Anna. Or, should I say Anna ran into me? Another long story short, I raised with AKs, got a couple of callers, and ended up losing a ton of chips to a set. I busted out shortly thereafter.
Hey, at least I played okay (in the second game, at least) and lost to a legitimate hand. Believe it or not, I don’t feel too terrible about the session. The experiment continues….
All-in for now….
