Law of Averages

Little time to post today, so I'll make this short...

Well, it had to happen: my luck was due for a reversal. After moneying in 75% of my tourneys this past week, I had an extended losing session yesterday. Don't quite know what happened, except that the cards (mostly) didn't fall my way. I played a couple of turbos, where luck is more of a factor, so that certainly didn't help either.

The only bright spot is that I didn't lose very much money overall. The reason was twofold: a) the one game that I did money in was a $6 game, and I took second place (I had an amazing run of flopped sets that allowed me to take out four of the 8 opposing players singlehandedly); and b) I played a couple of quick sessions of hit-and-run $1/2 6max limit and recouped some of my tourney losses.

Luck is a strange thing. Maybe it's just a psychological thing, but it does seem that I'm either running very good, or running very poorly. I.e., there doesn't seem to be any middle ground. Looking at my PT numbers, it's clear that I'm a 50% winner in tourneys over the long run, but it also is clear that I have a lot of long winning streaks (like last week), followed by a lot of long losing streaks. Rarely do I get into a pattern of win one, lose one, win one, lose one.... I'd like to delve into this a bit and see what, if anything, is responsible for the extended win/loss runs. For instance, does losing cause me to tilt a bit, therefore exacerbating the loss phenom? I do know that extended winning has the effect of putting me on a success syndrome track, which is almost as certain to cause a melt-down as proper tilt does. Dunno....

Moneyed in (only) 1 of 6 SnG's yesterday.
