Well, the second month of YIPES has come to a close. The bankroll goal for April was to reach $20 in my Poker Stars account, and I've actually exceeded that amount by five dollars. Five dollars and seventeen cents, to be exact. This is good news… ...so then why am I not happy?
The reason is that a week ago, I was up much, much higher than $25.17. In fact, I was all the way up to $40.50 and things were amazingly good. I was unbeatable. My money percentage in the $1.+.2 SnGs I had played in was a sky-high 75%. I was crushing the 2/4-cent limit games and doing fairly well at the 5/10-cent games. I was on top of the world.
But then a prolonged losing streak hit. Part of it was my own damn fault, experimenting with 10/20-cent games for a few hundred hands, plus some donkey-like play at the Stud Hi/Lo tables. But that was okay, I told myself. I had already reached the goal for not only this month, but the next month as well; why not play around a little with my new-found wealth?
Sigh.
When I had dropped to $36 I quit the foolish games and went back to the 5/10 games in earnest. Unfortunately, the poker gods evidently wanted me to pay a price for my earlier arrogance, and I suffered bad beat after bad beat. I went oh-for-five in SnGs, and then lost a bunch in 5/10-cent limit. I dropped down to the 2/4-cent games, and SLOWLY began righting the sinking ship. I'm now hovering at $25 and clearly just need to grind my way back up at the micro-stakes tables for a while. The good news is that I have an entire month to earn just $15. The bad news is I have to earn $15 in just thirty days :-) Whatchyagonnado?
The only other poker news to report is I will be teaching the Guru's community college beginning poker class next week, as he is out on surgery leave. Should be fun, but I'm a bit worried about the time sink it will incur in my life. I've got a big book deadline that's looming over my head, and teaching/playing poker shouldn't be very high on the priority list. The updates to the blog have been slow of late, too, for the same reason, and will continue to be slow for the next two months as I pound my head against the manuscript deadline wall. Oh well, I will just be glad when it's over and done with… ...and I get get back to the felt in earnest.
All-in for now…
