I have a great idea that will make someone a fortune if they can figure out a way to implement it: An "Undo" option on your favorite poker site. If I could erase this past weekend and do it over again, I'd be a happy man indeed. From the plot above, where I show the past four days of results, you can see why I want a Mulligan. Here's the blow-by-blow:
A. Friday afternoon was mostly $10NL cash games, and I was running pretty good. Had a big double-up in a deepstack ($20 buy-in) 5/10-cent game. Was feeling pretty good about this, and I had an opportunity to play another 150 hands or so that night at home. Things crept downward a bit, but I still ended up on Friday night about $5 or so overall.
B. Played some $10NL on Saturday morning and had some really good success. No full double-ups, but I had aces and kings earn me some serious dough. I also had a couple of middle sets hold up to earn fairly well. My high point occurred at B on the plot, where I was within $15 or so of the magical $400 bankroll. I was invincible.
C. From B to C, I played more $10NL on Saturday afternoon. I wasn't really getting any cards, so there was a steady dribbling away of cash. Unfortunately, I lost one complete buy-in in a deepstack game when Anna blew my brains out against a well-disguised set. I was down a few bucks and should have just walked away. Instead, I went on bug-tilt, which is my term for a propensity for me to try and win back what I just lost so that I can post a profit for the day. Can you say Stupid?
D. Bug-tilt in full blossom. For some inexplicable reason, I abandoned NL in favor of $1/2 limit. As the plot shows, I went on a wild ride. Down, up, DOWN, UP, down, up. Saturday night found me up ~$5 for two days of a lot of poker. There was a lot of variance in the game, and I could have just as easily ended up down $5 or $10 or even $20. I was lucky to end up where I did, considering.
E. Sunday morning I had an hour so I played some $10NL. I clearly wasn't on my game, as I made a number of donkey moves, including getting all my money into the middle on nut draws and with bogus hands like TPTK. Not smart.
F. Bug-tilt set in again, and I jumped from $.50/1. to $1/2 to $2/4 and, yes, even some $3/6 as I tried mightily to right the sinking ship. This wasn't just stupid, it was STUPID as I chased and chased and chased. Couple bad play with some truly awful beats and some serious tilt, and you see why I want a Mulligan for Sunday. I managed to slow down a bit in the evening when I played another 45 minute session, but the cards were dead to me and I dribbled away another $10 or so in just variance. Ugh.
G. Sucked it up this afternoon and played a $1 SnG and some $10NL at lunch. Got killed in the SnG, but posted a nice $10 profit in the cash game. Felt good, but I've dug a mighty deep hole that I have to climb back out of once again.
Lesson #1: Slow and steady wins the poker race. There are no quick fixes to a losing session, especially if that quick fix comes knocking in the guise of bug-tilt. Moving up in limits to recover a loss from a lower limit session is, clearly and in the light of day, a dumb move. Just hope I can remember that the next time I start to think about taking this route to fix a bad run….
Lesson #2: There is no Undo command on Full Tilt Poker. If someone finds this illusive button on another poker site, please let me know; I will gladly switch sites. I'd love to cry, "do over" and erase a day like Sunday. Sigh.
All-in for now…
