Doubling Down

Just played an unusual $1.10 single-table SnG on 'Stars today at lunch. The game was 10-handed, the blinds escalated at a turbo pace... and the prize pool was evenly divided up for the top half of the finishers. In other words, the game was over once five players were eliminated, with the five survivors each paid $2. You could say it was a pure "take the hill" situation, with survival being the only goal. This, of course, meant a super tight game was called for.... so I did.

I played four hands in total, and pretty much just coasted into the money. Reading the poker forums, I see that there are some people who specialize in these 2-or-nothing games, posting ITM percentages of 70-75% or higher. Dunno, but it looks pretty straightforward to make money at these things. I'll let you know, as I intend to try playing ten of these over the course of the next month or two and see how it shakes out.

All-doubledup-in for now...

  1. Generally I agree with you as I played a lot them when I was starting out and working at getting my Poker Stars bonus $$$. They get a little tougher as you move up in the $$$ and you find more and more tight-ish players and as the binds get higher. Have fun with them.
