End of First Week Back in the Saddle

Well, I've been back in the swing of things (YIPES-wise) for a week now and it's working out fairly well. The bankroll has grown by ~$15 in seven days and I'm getting comfortable playing again after my month-long hiatus. As I mentioned last time, I have moved up in limits in an effort to stay ahead of the ever-steepening "doubling" curve. Specifically, I'm now playing exclusively $3+.40 single-table SnGs once a day, and if I have extra time to play in the evenings I'm multi-tabling at the 10/20-cent limit level. I've also dabbled at stud hi/lo again, but at best it seems to be a break-even proposition, given my less than expert skill level at the game.

As expected, the swings are big--both down and up--but this is the nature of the YIPES game. Surprisingly, I haven't seen much improvement in opp play at the higher limits. The 10/20-cent limit games in particular have been pretty soft (although, to be fair, I've only played 4-5 times at that level so far). I got into a pretty fishy game the day before yesterday that had two serious calling stations that were just begging to give their money away. I pocketed $3.25 in about thirty minutes from the two of them before the well ran dry.

Similarly, the $3+.40 SnGs aren't particularly any harder than the $1 tables, either. In fact, if anything the play seems a bit more cautious and predictable. Again, the sample size is small, but nonetheless I am curious when I will start seeing a marked increase in difficulty. (I'm hoping that it's a LONG time away in the future!)

In other news, it seems that half of the Tucson poker community is up in Vegas for the WSOP. I heard a rumor that the Guru busted out of the main event on day one, but that is unconfirmed. Other Tucson notables inclue Seth K., who reportedly is still in the hunt in the main event, and Deb Blair, who has cashed a few times already in smaller WSOP tourneys this month. Go Tucson!

The final thing to note is that I've been invited to join a new monthly start-up tourney that will be held the third Saturday of every month. Buy-in is $75, with about half of the dough going to a pool to fund a trip for the year's points champion to play in the main event. They're trying to get 40 regular entrants at the game every month. The players are supposed to be pretty serious/good, so this oughta be fun/challenging/expensive.

Well, that's all I have time for posting today. I'm working on catching up on the Honey-Do list that was neglected during the last few months of my book project... but of course I'll find time to continue to play online. There are priorities, and then there are Priorities in life, right?

All-in for now...
