Wow, the final table of the WSOP Main Event $10K event is finally set, and two big name players actually made the cut. Both Phil Ivey and Jeff Schulman (of Cardplayer Magazine publishing fame) are among the final nine players who will compete in November. First place will pay a staggering $8.5M, with ninth paying a still pretty amazing $1.26M. Here are the chip counts going into the end game:
Darvin Moon — 58,930,000
Eric Buchman — 34,800,000
Steven Begleiter — 29,885,000
Jeff Shulman — 19,580,000
Joseph Cada — 13,215,000
Kevin Schaffel — 12,390,000
Phil Ivey — 9,765,000
Antoine Saout — 9,500,000
James Akenhead — 6,800,000
Moon has to be the odds-on favorite to win it, given his huge chip lead, but I really wouldn't count Ivey out. Sure, he's got a long way to come back, but all it takes is a couple of big hands and he'll be right back in the thick of things. Lore is he's a fierce short-stack player, and even though he's won seven previous gold bracelets, hasn't won the big one yet in his career. You gotta figure the fire is gonna burn pretty hot within him to win this thing. Don't know much about any of the other players (but I'm sure we'll be learning a lot more in the next few months), but in the meantime, my money is on the Tiger Woods of poker to make a big run and take down the bracelet.
All-in for now....
