I was skimming through a science article the other day in which the author was pondering on the study and philosophy of thought and the mind. He casually mentioned Auguste Rodin's sculpture The Thinker* and mused about what the model was, well, thinking when he posed for the statue. I about fell out of my chair when I read "Well, clearly, the man was pondering something deeply vexing, such as how to solve his nation's growing dependence on foreign oil, or perhaps how to play Big Slick when facing an early position raise."
Not much to report today, so I'll make this brief. Been up and down in Rush poker this past week, and have about broken even in most of the SnGs I've played, too. I believe I'm succumbing to Success Syndrome, because when I look at my HEM stats, I see that I grind out a steady win over a large sample size, but then tend to nose over and give most of it back on questionable calls and too-strong bluffs. Grrrr.
The only good news to report is that I took 9th place in a 600-person On Demand $1 Rush tournament this weekend. The bad news is that I got stupid at the end and cost myself a higher finish by losing sight of the fact that there were shorter stacks than myself that I could have outlasted by simply doing nothing. Instead, however, I attacked a large stack in the big blind from my small blind with AQs. When the hyper aggro bb shoved back over the top at me PF, I should have let it go. Alas, I didn't. Instead, I thought he was full of it, made the call, and he turned over eights. Okay, I thought, at least it's a coinflip.... that is, until the flop delivered his set on a golden platter and I was sent packing. I busted out in ninth, and the villain went on to win the entire thing and pocket close to $200 for two hours of play. Grrrr, Take 2.
Heading to Europe today for a quick out-n-back trip with two co-workers, one of whom is Mr. Multi. The week is crammed with travel and meetings, but MM told me last week that the city we're visiting has a casino. Hmmmmm. Now that's something to Think about.
Gotta go pack...
All-in for now....

*Years ago when I lived in Europe, my wife and I visited the Rodin museum in Paris. I'm not blessed with artistic talents, but I do know what I like-- and Auguste Rodin's work is, to my eye, simply beautiful. For those unaware, Rodin was a sculpture who lived in the late 1800s/early 1900s and created a number of well known pieces, including the venerable Thinker. (Actually, he created a couple dozen Thinkers, trying over and over to get it "just right", but I digress). Anyway, I was surprised by how much I was moved by his work when I saw it firsthand. If you ever get a chance, a half-day visit to Musee Rodin should definitely be considered....
