Phil the Duck and Matt the Matros

First the bad news: Say what you will about the the obnoxious, bad-mannered, giant ego'd, love-to-hate-him Phil Hellmuth, but the man definitely can play tournament poker. He took down a 12th bracelet yesterday in a Razz event. This means he holds the record for most WSOP bracelets, plus he's final-tabled 46 times, and cashed 89 times in the past 4 decades. Hate to say it, but you gotta respect dat....

And now the good news: Matt Matros, a poker player whom I respect greatly and have learned a lot from over the years (via his book and card player articles) won his third bracelet in as many years. This is the guy from whom I received an "a-ha!" moment when he wrote (paraphrasing here) that if you want to money in a tournament, your focus should be on avoiding getting blinded away, but if you want to win the tournament, you have to accumulate chips. Sounds simple, but this is actually quite profound.

Quack, quack.

All-in for now...
